Shared living

We have three houses in the Leith and Restalrig areas of Edinburgh where people with learning disabilities and assistants live together, with additional support provided by teams of live-out assistants. Our newest house opened in 2014 and is purpose built for core members living with dementia or additional support needs. Each house is registered with the Care Inspectorate to provide care at home and housing support services. Core members live rich and varied lives and are supported to make decisions about where they want to live, and what they want to do based on their interests, needs, skills and aspirations.

L’Arche Edinburgh provides support during the day for some core members, with activities ranging from volunteering in cafes, mother and toddler groups, and the City Farm, to going to laughing yoga classes and setting up a small library. Others go out to day services in Edinburgh. Families are very much involved and an important part of our Community.
